Virginia Cougars |
Great pitching and timely hitting combined for a win in the first Super-Regional game. The Cobras scored in the top of the first when Louis stroked a 2-out single to right field. Wes then drew a full-count walk to set the stage for Anthony's deep shot to left field for a double, scoring both runners. Trevor followed with an RBI single to drive in the 3rd run of the inning. With a 3-0 lead, Louis took the mound and dominated for a 9 strikeout, 0 walk, 2 hit, 0 earned runs complete game. Insurance runs were added in the 7th inning, when Trevor continued his hot hitting by leading off with double. A ground-out by Mike moved Trevor to 3rd, and Kenny's sacrifice fly to deep center brought him home. Taylor then reached base on an error, and Jeff brought him in to score with a double. Final score: Cobras 5, Cougars 1 |

striking out 2, and walking 1. Chris Wilson led the defense, making
several spectacular catches in center field to take away sure base
hits. Top hitters: Jeff - 2 for 3 (double, walk, RBI), Louis - 2
for 3 (2-doubles, 2 RBI, walk), Chris - 1 for 2 (walk, HBP), and
Brian Bobby-1 for3. Final score: Cobras 5, Ravens 9 |

Virginia Cobras |
Trevor pitched
a great game against the defending state champs, but costly defensive
errors and too little offense led to a loss. In going the distance
against a good hitting team, Trevor gave up only 2 earned runs on
6 hits, with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks. Our 2 hits came on infield
singles by Jeff and Matt. A tough loss that turned on a few key
plays. Final score: Cobras 1, VA Cobras 4 |

1st
Game Louis pitched a complete game 12 inning shut-out against the defending PVAAU champs, holding them to 2 hits, 6 strikeouts, and 1 walk! The Cobras had men in scoring position in 6 different innings, but couldn't manage to put a run across the plate. Jeff had 2 hits, while Wes and Kenny had 1 hit apiece. The game was called on a time limit after 2-1/2 hours of tense baseball played at a very high level by both teams. Final score: Cobras 0, Patriots 0 2nd Game The offense came alive in the second game of the tournement and scored 13 runs in 5 innings to win by slaughter rule. Mike's pitching kept the Hawks in check, allowing 2 hits with no walks. Mike induced 12 infield grounders for outs, with TJ at 3rd base recording 6 of them. The Hawks had no runner advance past 2nd base for the entire game. On offense, Louis led the team by going 3 for 4 (2 doubles, 2 RBI). Jeff was 1 for 2 (2 HBP), Wes 2 for 4 (double, RBI), Brian G. 2 for 3 (RBI, BB), Matt 2 for 3 (BB), Mike 1 for 2 (double, 2 RBI, SAC), and TJ 2 for 3 (RBI). Final Score: Cobras 13, Hawks 0 |

Olney Pirates |
The final game
of the tournament was between the 2 remaining unbeaten teams, with
the winner to be crowned PVAAU champion. More drama was added
to the contest when it was learned just before game time that Louis
and Coach Bobby would be banned from the site for a pitching rules
violation from the day before. The visiting Cobras opened
up the game with a single by Jeff, a walk by Wes, and a blast to
right field for a 3 run homerun by Chris (special
thanks to the Bushnell's van for stopping the ball from bouncing
through the parking lot and becoming lost).
Trevor took the mound with a 3 run lead and his great effort kept
the Pirates off balance the entire game. His 1-hitter was helped
by some fine defense. In the bottom of the first inning, a nice
double play was started by a grounder to Matt at 3rd, starting a
5-4-3 to end the inning. For the second straight game, the opposing
team never got a runner past 2nd base. At the plate: Jeff 2
for 3 (SAC), Chris 1 for 4 (3 RBI), Anthony (1 for 3), Trevor (1
for 2) and Mike (1 for 3). Final score: Cobras 4, Pirates 0 Congratulations Cobras! 2001 PVAAU 15U Champions! |
